Warhammer Age of Sigmar Maggotkin of Nurgle Lord of Blight

TAG     : Warhammer Age of Sigmar Maggotkin of Nurgle Lord of Blight

GAME : Age of Sigmar

The Lord of Blight is a truly iconic and fearsome mortal champion within the Maggotkin of Nurgle army in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. He perfectly embodies the relentless, grim determination of Nurgle's most dedicated Rotbringer champions, focusing on spreading virulent plagues and collecting gruesome trophies.

Lord of Blight: Harbinger of Contagion

Lore & Background:

  • The Relentless Planter: Unlike some of Nurgle's more jovial or frenzied champions, the Lord of Blight is a grim and focused figure. His purpose is singular: to spread Nurgle's diseases far and wide, effectively "planting" new infections that will blossom into full-blown plagues.
  • Collector of Trophies: He is known for collecting the severed heads of his enemies, which he strings onto his body and weapon. These trophies are not just for display; they are believed to be imbued with the diseases and essence of their former owners, acting as vectors for even more potent contagions.
  • Blightreek Censer: His most distinctive feature is often the massive, incense-like censer he carries, which emits noxious, disease-laden fumes. This "blightreek" poisons the very air, sickening nearby foes and preparing them for the harvest of Nurgle's axe.
  • An Implacable Advance: Lords of Blight are commanders of other mortal Nurgle forces, particularly Blightkings, and they lead from the front, their heavily armoured forms shrugging off blows as they advance inexorably.

Appearance & Equipment:

  • Heavily Armoured: The Lord of Blight is clad in thick, rusted Nurgle-marked plate armour, often distorted and bulging with internal corruptions.
  • Desecrating Great Axe: He wields a massive, two-handed axe, usually depicted as rusted, chipped, and dripping with putrid fluids. This weapon is used for hacking down foes and collecting their heads.
  • Blightreek Censer: A large, often swinging, censer filled with foul-smelling, disease-laden embers and incense, attached to his back or arm.
  • Trophy Heads: Chains of severed, decaying heads dangle from his armour and weapon, a gruesome testament to his conquests and a visible source of contagion.

Role on the Battlefield (Age of Sigmar): The Lord of Blight is a Mortal Hero designed to be a durable melee combatant, a leader for Rotbringer units, and a source of mortal wound output and disease spread.

  • Fearsome Melee Combatant: With his Desecrating Great Axe, the Lord of Blight hits hard. He typically has a good number of attacks, strong rend, and high damage, allowing him to contend with other heroes and elite units.
  • Leader of Rotbringers: He often has abilities that buff nearby friendly Rotbringer units (like Blightkings or Pusgoyle Blightlords). This might include re-rolls to hit, improved bravery, or enhanced damage output.
  • Harbinger of Plagues (Trophy Heads Ability): This is his signature ability related to his trophy collection. It often allows him to:
    • Cause mortal wounds to nearby enemy units when he or friendly units kill something.
    • Make enemy units suffer penalties to their saves or bravery when in proximity to the gruesome trophies.
    • Spread Contagion Points more effectively.
  • Blightreek Censer Ability: The noxious fumes from his censer also manifest as a battlefield effect, usually:
    • Inflicting mortal wounds on nearby enemies.
    • Reducing the enemy's Save characteristic, making them easier for his companions to wound.
    • Debuffing enemy units in other ways (e.g., reducing movement or attack characteristics).
  • Durability: Like most Nurgle units, he's tough. Expect a good save characteristic and likely the standard Disgustingly Resilient ability (reducing damage taken).

Strategic Use:

  • Blightking Anchor: He is a perfect leader for a unit of Blightkings, marching with them, buffing their already formidable melee attacks, and helping them to become an unstoppable, disease-ridden brick wall.
  • Mortal Wound Threat: His combined abilities can dish out a surprising number of mortal wounds, bypassing enemy saves and wearing down even resilient foes.
  • Objective Control: His durability and leadership make him excellent for holding a key objective in the mid-field, daring opponents to try and dislodge him.
  • Synergy with Plague Priests: Can be paired with a Plague Priest for even more mortal wound output and buffs to his Rotbringer allies.
