• Ancient Veterans: These were once the cream of the Thousand Sons' martial elite, the veterans of countless wars, and highly potent psykers in their own right. They formed the personal guard of Magnus the Red and the champions of each Cult.
• Victims of the Rubric: They are perhaps the most tragic consequence of the Rubric of Ahriman. When the powerful sorcerer Ahriman cast his great spell to halt the rampant mutations afflicting the Thousand Sons, it had an unforeseen and catastrophic side effect: it turned almost all non-psyker (and many lesser psykers) Space Marines of the Legion into dust, leaving their souls bound within their power armour.
• Animated Shells: A Scarab Occult Terminator is an empty suit of Terminator armour, animated by the arcane will of a nearby Thousand Sons Sorcerer (often the Aspiring Sorcerer leading their squad) and powered by the ghostly, psychic echoes of the warrior who once inhabited it.
• Silent and Unyielding: They do not speak, they do not feel, they do not tire. They simply advance, an unstoppable tide of ancient metal and latent psychic power, their movements precise and utterly devoid of emotion.
  
  
• Ornate Tartaros Pattern Armour: Scarab Occult Terminators typically wear highly ornate Tartaros pattern Terminator armour. This armour is older, more agile, and often more decorated than the more common Indomitus pattern. It's adorned with intricate Egyptian-themed iconography, hieroglyphs, scarabs, and the symbols of Tzeentch, typically in the Thousand Sons' signature blue and gold.
• Force Weapons: The squad leader, the Scarab Occult Aspiring Sorcerer, wields a Force Staff, allowing him to channel psychic energy and directly control the automata around him.
• Inferno Combi-bolters: Their standard ranged weapon is the Inferno Combi-bolter. This weapon fires psychically charged, armour-piercing bolts that glow with warp energy, making them devastating against both infantry and armoured targets.
• Heavy Weapons: Squads can typically include more potent heavy weapons:
  • Soulreaper Cannon: A rapid-firing heavy bolter variant that shreds infantry.
  • Heavy Warpflamer: A terrifying short-ranged flamethrower that projects torrents of psychic fire, excellent for clearing entrenched foes.
• Prosperine Khopesh (Melee): Many Scarab Occult Terminators also carry a Prosperine Khopesh, a curved, power-bladed sword, for close-quarters engagements. Though silent, they are still deadly in melee.
  
  
• Psychic Conduit: While not living psykers, their armour and the bound souls within them act as powerful conduits for psychic energy. Their presence amplifies the psychic prowess of nearby Thousand Sons Sorcerers.
• Implacable Advance: Their Terminator armour makes them incredibly durable, shrugging off hits that would fell lesser warriors. They are a true anvil on the battlefield, relentless in their advance.
• Unwavering Discipline: Controlled by their Aspiring Sorcerer, they operate with chilling precision and perfect tactical obedience, executing complex manoeuvres with uncanny coordination.
• Aura of the Rubric: Their very presence often generates an aura of psychic static or warp interference, reflecting the unnatural energies that animate them.

Scarab Occult Terminators are an elite, multi-role unit crucial to any Thousand Sons army:

• Line Holders/Anvil: Their incredible durability makes them excellent for holding objectives or anchoring a battleline, resisting heavy enemy fire.
• Ranged Firepower: Their Inferno Combi-bolters provide a strong volume of psychically charged, AP fire that can chew through most infantry.
• Assault Element: Equipped with Khopesh, they are still very capable in close combat, particularly against other elite infantry. The Aspiring Sorcerer also brings significant melee punch.
• Psychic Support: They are always considered a "Cabal of Sorcerers" unit, meaning they generate "Cabal Points" that can be spent to amplify the psychic powers of other Thousand Sons psykers, making their army-wide psychic phase even more potent.
• Deep Strike Threat: Like many Terminators, they can be deployed via deep strike, appearing exactly where their formidable firepower and resilience are needed most to seize a critical objective or shore up a crumbling flank.
