Heavy Intercessor Squads are an elite class of Primaris Space Marines designed to serve as an unyielding defensive battleline. They sacrifice some of the mobility of standard Intercessors for significantly enhanced durability and superior heavy firepower, making them exceptional at holding ground and breaking enemy formations.

Combat Role and Deployment: Heavy Intercessors form the formidable backbone of Primaris Space Marine forces, specifically employed in strategic positions where their resilience and heavy weapons can have the greatest impact. Their primary role is to hold key objectives against overwhelming odds and to deliver sustained, punishing fire against heavier enemy units that might otherwise shrug off standard bolter fire. They are less about rapid advance and more about anchoring a position with unyielding resolve.

Equipment and Capabilities: Each Heavy Intercessor is equipped with a heavy bolt rifle, a weapon with superior stopping power compared to the standard bolt rifle. They also carry a bolt pistol, a close combat weapon, and grenades. For every five models in a squad, one heavy bolt rifle can be replaced with an even more potent heavy bolter, allowing commanders to tailor the squad's anti-infantry or anti-light vehicle capabilities. The inherent Strength 5 of their heavy bolt rifles makes them effective against a wider array of threats than the more general-purpose firepower of standard Intercessors.

Durability and Tactical Advantages: A defining characteristic of Heavy Intercessors is their remarkable durability. They wear a heavier variant of Mark X power armor, granting them a significant boost in survivability compared to standard Intercessors. They typically boast +1 Toughness and +1 wound per model, making them incredibly tough to dislodge. Furthermore, when positioned on or within range of an objective marker controlled by their Chapter, they gain improved armor saves against lighter attacks. This combination of robust armor, additional wounds, and defensive bonuses makes them one of the most durable basic troop units available to the Space Marines.
