Eradicator Squads are specialized Primaris Space Marine heavy support units, designed for one devastating purpose: the close-range annihilation of enemy armor and heavy infantry. Clad in durable Mk X Gravis armor and wielding powerful melta weaponry, they are a terrifying force on the battlefield.

Role and Specialization: Eradicators are essentially anti-tank and anti-heavy infantry specialists. Their entire doctrine revolves around getting close to the most heavily armored enemy assets – be it vehicles, tanks, Imperial Knights, or even lighter Titans – and reducing them to slag with concentrated melta fire. Their signature ability, "Total Obliteration," allows a stationary unit to shoot twice at a single target, delivering an unparalleled torrent of destructive energy.

Key Characteristics:

• Mk X Gravis Armor: Eradicators wear the bulky and resilient Mk X Gravis armor, providing them with enhanced toughness (Toughness 5), multiple wounds per model (3 wounds), and a strong armor save (3+). This makes them tough to bring down, allowing them to weather incoming fire as they advance.
• Melta Weaponry: Their primary armaments are melta rifles, or in larger squads, heavy melta rifles or multi-meltas. These weapons are devastating at close range, generating immense heat that can melt through even the thickest armor. They also carry bolt pistols and grenades for secondary engagements.
• Slow but Purposeful: While incredibly tough and destructive, their Gravis armor means they have a relatively slow movement speed (5 inches). This often necessitates transporting them in dedicated transports like Impulsors or Repulsors, or utilizing Strategic Reserves to position them optimally within the crucial half-range (under 12 inches) of their melta weapons for maximum effect.
• Limited Melee: While they possess a basic melee capability (benefiting from Shock Assault for an extra hit on the charge), with about 10 attacks total in a squad, it's sufficient against light infantry but is not their primary focus or strength.

Tactical Use and Chapter Synergies: Eradicators are powerful units that can fit into most Space Marine Chapters due to their raw destructive output. However, certain Chapter tactics can enhance their effectiveness:

• Ultramarines: Their ability to count as stationary in the Tactical Doctrine allows for consistent "Total Obliteration" shots, and re-rolls from leaders like Roboute Guilliman further boost their accuracy.
• Iron Hands: They can ignore penalties to hit rolls in the Devastator Doctrine and use stratagems like "Methodical Firepower" to activate multiple units for shooting.
• Salamanders: Known for their expertise with melta and flamer weapons, Salamanders benefit greatly from Eradicators, often leveraging specific detachments like Firestorm Task Force or Forge Father Seekers for significant buffs that elevate their already potent performance.

Eradicator Squads were introduced as part of the Primaris Space Marine evolution, first appearing in the Indomitus box set, and quickly established themselves as a premier heavy infantry fire support choice in the grimdark 41st millennium.
