Illuminor Szeras is a terrifying and indispensable figure within the Necron dynasties, renowned (and often reviled) for his role in their very existence. He is a prime antagonist in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a chilling disregard for life.

The Architect of Biotransference: Szeras is a notorious Necron Cryptek and Technomancer of the Sautekh Dynasty. His most infamous contribution to Necron history is the invention of the biotransference process itself. This horrific ritual stripped the Necrontyr of their flesh and souls, trapping them in immortal metallic bodies, thus creating the Necrons as they are known today. This act makes him both vital to the survival of his race and a source of deep resentment for many of his kin who lament their lost organic forms.

Obsession with Life and Godhood: Szeras's ultimate obsession is to unravel the mysteries of life, not out of any benevolent intent, but to transcend his mechanical form and achieve godhood as a being of pure energy. He believes that by understanding the fundamental processes of biology, he can unlock the secrets to evolving beyond his current metallic shell.

Brutal Experiments and Alien Dissections: To achieve his goals, Szeras conducts brutal and excruciating experiments on living subjects. He has a distinct preference for Eldar specimens, finding their intricate biology particularly fascinating and yielding the most intriguing results for his research. He subjects countless alien creatures to dissection and vivisection in the bloodstained laboratories of his homeworld, Zantragora. He rarely experiments on the dead, firmly believing that true knowledge can only be gained from observing life in its purest, most agonizing state.

His gruesome studies have, paradoxically, led to significant Necron technological advancements. Through the dissection of creatures like Salemenar Arachnoid compound eyes and Chitanius amblyhide, he has developed improvements such as enhanced targeting optics and more efficient armor for his Necron brethren. Despite these benefits, many Necrons find his fascination with organic forms and his methods distasteful.

Arrogance, Cruelty, and Lack of Honor: Szeras is characterized by extreme arrogance, cruelty, and a profound lack of honor, traits that set him apart even from many other Necrons. He disdains personal combat, preferring to use his cunning and the specialized abilities of units like Deathmarks against honorable foes. He demands raids on targeted worlds as payment for his technological enhancements and tolerates no failure from his minions.

Notable Campaigns and Goals: Among his many heinous acts, Szeras led Sautekh warriors to raid the Imperial world of Gorszt, where he destroyed a Mentors Space Marine fortress and seized their precious gene-seed caches for his experiments. He has also exploited galactic phenomena, such as the Warp cataclysm on Nectavus VI, to further his cryptic and horrifying goals. With billions of victims and countless desolated worlds in his wake, Illuminor Szeras remains a truly terrifying and ever-present threat in the Warhammer 40,000 galaxy.
