Maugan Ra is the Phoenix Lord of the Dark Reapers, the primal embodiment and perfect exemplar of their Aspect. He is an ancient, stoic, and devastatingly powerful warrior, a master of long-range annihilation and an unwavering guardian of the Aeldari.

Origin and Lore:

• Survivor of the Fall: Maugan Ra is unique among the Phoenix Lords as he is said to have been born on the Aeldari homeworlds just before the Fall, witnessing the catastrophic birth of Slaanesh firsthand. This experience left him deeply scarred and instilled a profound obsession with death and destruction, not out of malice, but out of a cold understanding of its nature.
• Disciple of Asurmen: Like Jain Zar, Maugan Ra was one of the first disciples of Asurmen, the first and greatest of the Phoenix Lords.
• The First Phoenix Lord of the Dark Reapers: He was the first to fully master the Aspect of the Dark Reaper, creating the lethal heavy weapons discipline known today. He founded the Dark Reaper Aspect Shrines, establishing their traditions, their grim demeanour, and their formidable wargear.
• Phoenix Lord Immortality: As with all Phoenix Lords, Maugan Ra's spirit is entwined with his armour. Should he fall, a worthy Aeldari can don the suit and inherit his vast experience and essence, allowing "Maugan Ra" to continue his eternal vigil.

Appearance:

• Grim and Skeletal: Maugan Ra's appearance is perhaps the most unsettling of all the Phoenix Lords, befitting his Aspect. His armour is almost universally black, with a skull-like helmet that features long, sharp "wings" or crests that evoke a bird of prey or a grim reaper.
• Imposing and Powerful: He is depicted as tall and gaunt, yet possesses an immense, terrifying presence. His armour is often adorned with bone-like details and Eldar runes of death.
• The Maugetar: His signature weapon, a monstrous combination of a shuriken cannon and a scythe, dominates his silhouette, emphasizing his role as a harbinger of doom.

Signature Weapon and Abilities:

• The Maugetar (Harvest Shuriken Cannon): This is his most iconic and devastating weapon. It is a massive, multi-barrelled shuriken cannon that also incorporates a colossal, razor-sharp scythe blade.
  • Ranged Devastation: The Maugetar unleashes an impossible torrent of monomolecular shuriken discs, each imbued with destructive psychic energy, capable of tearing apart infantry and light vehicles with ease.
  • Melee Power: The attached scythe blade is equally deadly, allowing Maugan Ra to scythe down multiple opponents in close combat, reflecting his name, "Harvester of Souls."
• Master of Precision and Annihilation: Maugan Ra can deliver pinpoint accurate heavy fire even while moving, a feat impossible for lesser heavy weapons specialists. He can single-handedly suppress entire enemy advances or pick off multiple key targets.
• Inhuman Toughness: Maugan Ra is renowned for his sheer resilience. He has survived impossible odds, including the destruction of Craftworld Altansar, emerging alone from the Eye of Terror, a testament to his unbreakable will and the protective power of his ancient wargear.
• Aura of Despair: His presence projects an aura of cold, bleak despair that can sap the will and courage of his enemies, making them easier prey for his devastating attacks.

Role in Lore:

• Leader of the Dark Reapers: He is the ultimate master of their Aspect, occasionally emerging from the Webway to lead his Aspect Warriors in battle or to instruct new Exarchs in the ways of long-range destruction.
• Unyielding Guardian: He represents the cold, relentless determination of the Aeldari. He is often called upon when conventional firepower is not enough to break a fortified enemy or eradicate a truly dangerous foe.
• Prophetic Figure: His actions, particularly his lone survival from Altansar, are often seen as omens, suggesting his role in the ultimate fate of the Aeldari.
• The Grim Reaper of Khaine: He embodies Khaine's aspect of inevitable and total destruction, a silent and unyielding force that cannot be reasoned with or escaped.
